Top 6 Best Ark Mods

ark taming review

When running a server, one of the most frustrating questions is what are the best Ark mods to use on your new server.

We have already taken a look specifically at building mods in our last post and since so many people have reached out with positive feedback, we decided to take a look at generalized mods for the game.

The best Ark mods for your server:

1: S+ (Structures Plus)

We’ve already mentioned S+ in the Top Building Mods post we did, however, it really is an essential mod for any server and one we highly recommend.

In fact, I won’t actually play on a server now unless it includes S+. The ability to build on any landscapes makes it invaluable.

2: Awesome Spyglass

Want to know how much health a dinosaur has before taming it, considering it may take hours, it’s best to check.

Awesome spyglass will show you the dino’s stats when equipped, meaning you no longer waste time on taming crap dinosaurs, finally!

It also shows you what you can use to tame the dinosaur, making things even easier.

The great thing about this mod is, it’s fully customizable, meaning if you don’t want to be able to target players with it, you can turn that off. You can find a full list of ini settings on the link below.

If you find Awesome Spyglass doesn’t work for you, take a look at Super Spyglass https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=793605978

3: Platforms Anywhere & Platforms Plus

These are two mods, but they work so well together that I felt they should be used together and thus only counted as one.

Platforms Anywhere:

As the name suggests, you can build platforms… Anywhere. Well, kind of, you need to build one of 30 prebuilt stands for them to go on, but you are no longer restricted to trees anymore.

Platforms Plus:

From the same creators as S+ and almost offering the same features, but for platforms, if you plan to live in a tree, or a Platforms anywhere structure, then platform plus is an absolute must.

Platforms anywhere was also made by the same creator too, so both will work together perfectly.

4: Reusable Plus

It gets really annoying trying to make enough bolas to take down a flying dino or having so many spears break at the start of a game when you are just trying to stay alive.

Reusable Plus allows you to create items that can be used over and over again, finally making starting off much less annoying. Crafted items include:

  • Reusable Bola
  • Reusable Flare Gun
  • Reusable Grappling Hook
  • Reusable Parachute
  • Reusable Spear

5: Automated Ark

Automated Ark is one of those mods for Ark that you either love or hate, it’s perfect for casual players that only get a short time to play between work and family life. But also great for people who may just want to jump into the action and not feel like Ark is actually their job.

It does all the tedious jobs that take up so much of your time, especially with a bigger base and potentially more dinosaurs.

It also has some mechanics built in to ensure that it makes up for the fact it is making things easier.

For example, it has a device that will slowly place bullets into all nearby turrets, however, each of these actions costs a small bullet tax, meaning you need to account for this when stockpiling ammo.

Like I said above, some people may find this one makes things too easy, me personally I used to, then I got promoted at work, had a baby and now have less time to play, so I can see the benefits of having it on your server.

You can find a full list of its features and settings on the link below.

6: Rare Sightings

I’m especially fond of Rare Sightings due to its ability to push some interesting PVP scenarios onto the server.

The mod adds a new event to the game that periodically spawns in new dinosaurs that are higher level than the max server settings allow.

You can also get rewarded for either killing or taming a rare sighting dino, giving you even more incentive to get out there and look for them.

If you tame a rare dino it will have a unique color as well as traits.

No stacking mods?

You may wonder why I haven’t included stacking mods on the list, well there are two reasons;

  1. I don’t like them, I don’t mind mods making time-consuming tasks a bit quicker, but find most stacking mods take it too far,
  2. It’s a built-in option in the INI now! Which looking at Reddit, seems some people are not aware of, an example below

ConfigOverrideItemMaxQuantity=(ItemClassString=”PrimalItemResource_SnailPaste_C”,Quantity=(MaxItemQuantity=10000,bIgnoreMultiplier=true))

A full list of multipliers for this new setting can be found here.
