Discord is the most popular voice chat software for gamers, with tons of great features all designed to make chatting with your friends while gaming a breeze.
One of Discord’s most popular features is the overlay, which lets you see who is speaking while you’re playing games. But sometimes, as helpful as the Discord overlay might be, it can tend to get in the way a little, leaving some people wondering how to turn off the Discord overlay.
Thankfully there is a way to disable the Discord overlay for individual games, or you can simply turn it off completely.
How to Disable the Discord Overlay
To turn the Discord overlay off for all games, you’ll need to access the app’s settings. Here’s how to disable the overlay:

- Launch Discord on your computer.
- From the bottom-left corner, press the gear icon to access Settings.
- When the sidebar appears, select Game Overlay.
- On the right pane, locate the Enable In-Game Overlay option and toggle it off.
To turn the Discord overlay back on, repeat the above steps, but instead, select the toggle to on.
Disabling Discord Overlay for Specific Games Only
If you only want the Discord overlay to display (or not display) for specific games, you can enable this by doing the following:

- Launch Discord on your computer.
- From the bottom-left corner, press the gear icon to access Settings.
- Select Registered Games from the sidebar.
- On the right pane, locate the games you want to disable the Discord overlay for.
- Click the Monitor icon.
It’s as simple as that. Now you can enjoy your favorite games with the Discord overlay on, off, or only for selected games.
