Mario & Luigi: Brothership is an upcoming game designed exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. It’s the sixth installment in the Mario & Luigi game series and the first original game in the series since 2015’s Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam.
The game features a stylish new cell-shaded art design, with the story focusing on Mario & Luigi going from island to island trying to find their way back home, while also piloting a vessel that doubles up as an island itself.
While previous versions of the Mario & Luigi game series have been exclusively for handheld consoles, thanks to the Nintendo Switch’s dock, players will be able to enjoy Mario & Luigi: Brothership in both handheld mode or while docked to their TV.

Unlike most traditional Mario games, Mario & Luigi: Brothership is a turn-based RPG, with combat requiring real-time input from players.
Mario & Luigi: Brothership Trailer
The announcement trailer for Mario & Luigi: Brothership came during June’s Nintendo Direct event, giving us a look at the stylish new cell-shaded design and some gameplay.
As well as showing us what to expect from the game, the trailer also gave us the Mario & Luigi: Brothership release date: November 7, 2024. Both digital and physical versions of the game are already up on the Nintendo Store and are available to pre-order now.
Although the Mario & Luigi: Brothership trailer does make the game look like a co-op experience, sadly Mario & Luigi: Brothership appears to be single-player only, which is an odd choice for a game based around brothership and working together.

Multiple characters from the world of Mario are also shown in the trailer, but as it stands, it’s not clear if players will be able to play as any other characters, other than Mario and Luigi, in Mario & Luigi: Brothership.
As the game has only recently been announced, we can expect to start seeing some more trailers and content dropping soon, which should give us more answers about who we can play as and what we can expect from the game.
