Published originally by Sierra between 1987 to 2009, the Leisure Suit Larry game series has been loved by many. In 2020, Leisure Suit Larry Wet Dreams Dry Twice was released. Wet Dreams Dry Twice is a direct sequel to the 2018 adult-themed game.
The burning question is, does Larry Laffer have anything new to offer? Despite its long-running series, Wet Dreams Dry Twice does actually have a lot of new content.
You can of course expect plenty of innuendos, adult humor, and phallic symbolism. In addition, players will receive a fantastic new storyline, picking up from where the last story left off.
Wet Dreams Dry Twice Storyline
Leisure Suit Larry Wet Dreams Dry Twice is a direct follow on of Wet Dreams Don’t Dry. Larry has been booted out of the 80s straight into modern times.
Finding himself on the stunning island of Cancum, Larry was convinced the love of his life, Faith, had died. However, after locating her PiPhone, he soon discovers that his mission is to find Faith.
Much to his unwillingness, Larry is to partake in an arranged marriage with the daughter of the chief of Cancum. While she’s assured to be the most beautiful woman on the island, Larry has not met her.
His goal is simple; skip the arrange marriage and search for his long lost love.
Gameplay and Puzzles
Most of the puzzles in Leisure Suit Larry Wet Dreams Dry Twice are fetch-and-deliver. You’ll have to find items, place them in your inventory, then deliver them.
Additional features include the use of Larry’s camera phone. This allows players to take photos of items that might be useful later on, but are too large or messy to carry.
Photos appear in Larry’s inventory like they would an item. When the time is right, Larry will go off and fetch the item and replace the photo. While some players may prefer to be able to carry large items that wouldn’t reasonably fit into a bag or pocket, I find the level of realism quite endearing.
Larry can now also find blueprints on his adventures. He can use these to craft larger items, like a raft. Once you drag the required inventory items onto the correct place on the blueprint, construction will begin.
To break up the monotony of fetch-and-deliver quests, Wet Dreams Dry Twice offers a variety of mini-games. You can choose to skip these games if you don’t fancy them, which wasn’t very apparent in my first playthrough.
Without giving too much away, there’s a labyrinth at the end of the game. I’ll warn you now, it’s confusing and very easy to get lost. You’ll need to pay close attention to the characters you speak to, as some of them will provide clues to make your adventure a lot easier.
Graphics
Leisure Suit Larry Wet Dreams Dry Twice offers cartoon graphics, similar to its predecessor. The design aspect of the game compliments the addition of phallic symbols that you’ll spot everywhere.
In the pink hotel, you’ll find a number of penises drawn in the background. Of course, everything in the game has sexual connotations, like the “Scum Bar” which has conveniently lost the “S”, making it “Cum Bar”.
Summary
If you’re a fan of the Leisure Suit Larry series of adult games, you won’t be disappointed by Wet Dreams Dry Twice. It offers sexual innuendos on a platter, alongside terrible puns, humor, and pixel nudity.
The engaging story allows you to become somewhat oblivious to the sexual nature of the game (if you’re not playing it for that reason). The hand-drawn aesthetics are notable, adding a unique dimension to your everyday puzzle genre.
Never played a Leisure Suit Larry game before? Don’t worry. While it would be beneficial to play Wet Dreams Don’t Dry, you don’t have to in order to enjoy this game. Frankly, it’s a bit like marmite – you will either love it or hate it.
