Pokemon Go Review

by Kegan Mooney

I’m a bit late with my Pokemon Go Review, but sure enough it’s better late than never.

A few years ago it was almost impossible to step outside without seeing people glued to their phones, walking into lamp posts or in one case even off a cliff.

It wasnt our super interesting articles causing this, it was the craze Pokemon Go! As all fads do (after about a year) it did die down, but with new generations coming into the game all the time, players are slowly but surely coming back to the game.

What is Pokemon Go?

For those of you that missed the craze and are still wondering what the phone glued zombies are up to, Pokemon Go is a mobile game that uses your real time location to help you catch and collect Pokemon. It also uses augmented reality (AR) from your camera to bring them into the real world further.

There are also landmark locations that are used as either pokestops or poke gyms, where you can collect balls and other useful items and battle at the gym, collecting rewards for the time you manage to spend defending the gym.

What can I do in the game?

It’s not just throwing pokeballs at pokemon, you can do various other things such as:

  • Hatching eggs by walking a certain distance
  • Battling gyms against other players
  • Trading with other players
  • Raid battles – also done at gyms
  • Evolving and powering up pokemon
  • Walking with your buddy pokemon
  • And much more

Region locks

The game also uses a region lock, meaning that some pokemon cant be caught in your country, thus you will need to travel to catch them or trade with someone from another region.

Here is a look at region locked Pokemon (from Reddit), although they can often change so this may not be 100% accurate.
