Planet Coaster: Console Edition release is finally coming in 2020. Frontier, the king of theme park games, is finally bringing their popular coaster game to player’s big screens and sofas.
Planet Coaster released just over three years ago now on the PC and since then has given me countless hours of joy.
Whilst I do enjoy some great story-driven action games, I consider both Planet Coaster & Planet Zoo my go-to relaxing games to simply chill out to.
Since it’s release to PC, Planet Coaster has been highly rated and still has a strong fan base.
Planet Coaster and Planet Zoo have a massive library of Steam Workshop items to download and make further improvements to your park (or zoo).

Planet Coaster Sofa Style
When I first saw that Planet Coaster: Console Edition release was coming soon, I wasn’t sure if it would work. The game has some very intricate attention to detail when placing items.
However, if the port over to console can handle the individual rotation and placement of items well, then I cannot see a reason that the console release won’t be as popular as the Planet Coaster release on PC.
Planet Coaster: Console Edition Next Gen
Frontier Developments confirmed in June 2020 that Planet Coaster: Console Edition would be their first game to be released on next-generation consoles.
The PS5 and Xbox Series X will welcome Planet Coaster in Holiday 2020, so strap in and buckle up for the ride of your life!
Planet Coaster DLC’s:
It’s not clear yet if the release will come with the DLC that can currently be found on the current Planet Coaster release. My favorite of these being the Classic Rides Collection.
However, it would be great if Frontier released at least some DLCs to the console edition. The current DLC’s available for PC are:
- Ghostbusters™ – $5.86
- Classic Rides Collection – $5.46
- Magnificent Rides Collection – $5.46
- Quick Draw Interactive Shooting Ride
- World’s Fair Pack – $2.07
- Vintage Pack – $5.46
- Studios Pack – $5.46
- Adventure Pack – $5.46
- Spooky Pack – $5.46
- The Munsters® – $3.45
- Back to the Future™ – $3.45
- Knight Rider™ – $3.45

As the game on console won’t be running through Steam, it’s likely we won’t have access to the Steam Workshop for blueprints. This is a bit disappointing but hopefully will spur me on to create my own scenery in a bit more detail.
However I should imagine we will have some form of blueprint system to share our designs with the Planet Coaster console community.
Although this hasn’t been confirmed, I would imagine it’s very likely that this will become a feature as it’s been an integral part of the game.
What are your thoughts on the Planet Coaster console release? Will you be playing? Do you already have the game on PC?
