The Overwatch new hero is stirring up some mixed feedback, with many thinking he is too OP. Often Overwatch new characters end up being the center of gaming news.
Sigma is considered a mad scientist, a tank who can wield gravity, however he isn’t just your standard tank.
Sigma can use his kinetic grasp to pull incoming projectiles and convert them into a shield, therefore making him a survivalist tank.
Another noteworthy feature of the new Overwatch hero is his ability to float, meaning you can’t hear his footsteps (sneaky sneaky).
Tactically his ranged shield and ultimate ability are going to make for some incredibly interesting play.
His shield can be thrown up in the air too, meaning Pharah may now have problems raining down terror.
After seeing his abilities it’s easy to imagine scenarios where entire teams are thrown up in the air to clear choke points for tactical advantages.
Here is a full list of Sigma’s abilities:
Sigma’s primary fire that launches two orbs at his opponents, these are short to medium range and also explode.
Each individual orb does 60 damage on a direct hit and does not need to be reloaded. As far as primary attacks go, this one is pretty impressive.
Sigma throws out a projectile barrier that can be stopped at your command. It can also go in any direction including up!
The barrier has 1500 health and is pretty impressive, however I do find, although it is awesome, there seems to be too many shields in the game now, that I can’t help but find annoying.
A little bit like Neo in The Matrix, Sigma can stop projectiles in their path, however he can then soak them up and convert them into up to 400 shield. This currently has a 14 second cool down.
Sigma flings a giant f’ing rock at his enemies, as you can imagine, it really hurts them. This has a 10 second cooldown and has been known to cause extreme death…
Gravitic Flux (Ultimate):
Sigma flies up and can select an area below him where he can, after a short time, throw enemies up into the air. What goes up must come down, in this case, they do so very hard.
Not only is this painful for all caught up in the area, it also has some great tactical advantages. Used well, could alter the course of the match.
The Overwatch new hero is a great addition to the game and will add some valuable new play styles.
However, I can’t help but be annoyed at the addition of yet another shield wielding Overwatch new character.
On the other hand, if you can forgive the possibilities of a shield around every corner he is clearly a fun and well thought out addition.
In fact, he is probably one of the most well thought out characters in the game to date.
Furthermore, his abilities are both tactical and fun. Due to that, he gets my seal of approval.
What are your thoughts on the Overwatch new character? Is my rambling on about the shields too much, should I be more like frozen and just… let it go, let it go? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
