For some time now we have been hearing rumors of a new Nintendo Switch Pro, it would seem this time that the rumors were right, as Nintendo has now announced the upcoming Nintendo Switch OLED, which seems to be the rumored Nintendo Switch Pro.
How is the Nintendo Switch OLED Better?
To be honest with you, it’s not massively better, while it might be great for people looking for their first Nintendo Switch, I wouldn’t personally say this is a Nintendo Switch Pro level upgrade.
As you can see from the video, the new Nintendo Switch OLED is slightly bigger at 7 inches over the standard Nintendo Switch’s 6.2 inch display.
Of course, the screen does now use OLED technology, which will provide a better visual experience, but there has been no upgrade in resolution, the new console will still be 720p in table-top mode and 1080p on screens via the dock.
How do the consoles specs compare?
|Switch Lite||Nintendo Switch||Switch OLED|
|Screen||Capacitive touch screen / 5.5-inch LCD screen|
Multi-touch capacitive touch screen / 6.2-inch LCD screen
|Multi-touch capacitive touch screen / 7-inch OLED screen|
|CPU/GPU||Nvidia Custom Tegra processor||Nvidia Custom Tegra processor||Nvidia Custom Tegra processor|
|Battery life||3-7 Hours depending on usage||4-9 Hours depending on usage||4-9 Hours depending on usage|
|Charging time||3 Hours||3 Hours||3 Hours|
As you can see from the specs, the main upgrades here are the OLED screen and the doubled internal storage, the storage increase isn’t really that big of an upgrade, considering we can add up to 2TB of storage via a Micro SD card.
Should I Buy a Nintendo Switch OLED?
If you are a first-time Nintendo Switch buyer, then I would say it’s worth jumping straight into the OLED version of the console, but if you own a standard Nintendo Switch, I wouldn’t say there is enough here to warrant spending more money.
If you currently have a Nintendo Switch lite, then the question is, how important is having a dock and an OLED screen, if you can live without both of those features, save your money.
