Animal Crossing: New Horizons is all about showing off your creative flair, and while turning your island into your own personal slice of paradise is great, your home needs some love too. But many players still don’t know how to customize their house in Animal Crossing.
Customizing Your Animal Crossing House
To customize your house in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the first thing you want to do is head on over to Resident Services and talk to Tom Nook.

Sit down and speak to Tom. When he asks how he can help, choose the about my home option and then select I want to Customize. If this is your first time customizing your ACNH home, it won’t cost you any bells, but if you have done it before you will have to pay 5,000 bells, unless you have fully upgraded your house, then it will be free.
If you haven’t upgraded your house since the 2.0 update came out, then you will also be offered a one time free home customization.
Full House Customization
There are five tabs to explore; shape, roof, walls, door and mailbox. The first tab, shape, completely changes the shape of your house, and is a new feature that was added in the 2.0 update.

As you go through each of the shapes, you can press X to toggle between day and night, to see what they would look like depending on the time, as well as pressing Y to see them with the curtains drawn or open.
Currently, there are four shapes to choose from, select the one that you like most and press R to move on to the next tab. Don’t press the plus symbol yet, as you will want to customize the rest of your house.

Once you have picked how to customize your house’s shape, go through each of the tabs and customize them until you have picked your Animal Crossing dream house.
You will then be asked if you want to place this order. If you are sure everything is perfect, press OK!

Now that the house customization is in place, you won’t notice any difference until the next day. You can still access your house and everything remains the same until then, leaving you to work on decorating your island.
Once you’ve reached the final house upgrade level and you don’t need to worry about it costing money, now that you know how to customize your house in Animal Crossing, you can do it as many times as you want, keeping it looking fresh, or just changing it to match your islands evolving theme.
