Just days after cinematographer Polly Morgan confirmed cameras were rolling on FX’s new TV adaptation of Far Cry by posting a photo of the clapperboard on September, 14 2026, another huge cast reveal arrived on September, 17 2026. It’s been an exciting week for Far Cry fans.
Brendan Gleeson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Hamish Linklater, Sam Spruell and Jamie Demetriou have all been added to a lineup that already includes Rob Mac, Lizzy Caplan and Steve Buscemi, filling out an extraordinarily strong cast.
Far Cry TV Adaptation
The show was created by Noah Hawley and Rob Mac, with Mac also starring in the series and Hawley directing the first two episodes.
Production is based primarily at Pinewood Studios in London, with location filming also taking place in Spain. The adaptation was ordered by FX and is produced by FX Productions, with Ubisoft Film & Television among the executive producers.
In the US, Far Cry will be available on FX and Hulu, while Disney+ is the announced home internationally, including the UK. When exactly that will be, though, is only the first of many things FX is keeping under wraps.
Their Lips Are Sealed
FX still hasn’t disclosed any of the characters’ names or roles, the location within the story, who the protagonist is, who the villain is, or whether there will be monsters or any supernatural or science-fiction elements.
So while we may have collectively decided Steve Buscemi would make an excellent, terrifying Far Cry villain, that is still just wishful thinking, not fact. They’re also keeping the plot to themselves.

The Far Cry games tell different stories each time, but the series has a recognizable formula. Protagonists are often trapped in dangerous, isolated places where normal rules have collapsed, usually with a charismatic and deeply dangerous antagonist somewhere in the mix.
The details change completely from game to game, sometimes with elements of science fiction, the supernatural or hallucinatory weirdness. The TV show is taking that broader concept rather than adapting any particular game, with an entirely original story and a new cast and location planned for each season.
What’s Happening on Set?
And that’s about all we’ve officially been told about what’s going on so far, but that doesn’t mean nothing else has been happening.
Far Cry has been filming in Málaga, Spain. Local newspaper SUR has reported directly from production at the former Málaga Provincial Prison in the Cruz de Humilladero district, with more than 350 people involved in the shoot.
They’ve been blowing shit up, with residents hearing warning sirens and controlled blasts around the site. There was also a local casting call in Málaga for physically fit men with tattoos that was later linked to the show, giving us one of the few clues so far about the kind of people we might actually see on screen.
Zahara de la Sierra in Cádiz is another reported filming location.
So while FX is keeping things quiet, while simultaneously blowing up Spanish prisons, I wouldn’t expect an official plot or character names announcement anytime soon. However, we may get more cast, crew or filming location announcements, or a few accidental clues from the production itself, before then.
We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled.
