Picking up the game for the first time, you may be wondering how to disable messages and bloodstains in Elden Ring you see on the floor. After only a few days after its release, player-created messages are leading people astray, telling them to jump into the abyss, follow a path to nowhere, or ultimately get themselves killed.

While some of the messages in Elden Ring can prove useful, they are somewhat of a distraction from the environment. So, if you want to remove the messages and bloodstains in your path, here’s how to do it.

How to Remove Messages in Elden Ring
Unfortunately, there is no way to disable the messages or bloodstains unless you are willing to play offline. If you want to play online, you’ll have to endure them, for now.
However, since there are a lot of players unhappy about the situation, there may be a chance the developers release a patch to allow players to remove them. On the other hand, we’ve been used to this kind of mechanic since Demon’s Souls was released on the PS3, so there’s just as much of a chance you won’t be able to disable the messages.

By default, the game sets you to online play. If you want to change this and disable messages in Elden Ring, follow these steps:
- Open the Pause Menu in Elden Ring.
- Select System from the menu.
- Go across to the Network tab.
- Select Launch Setting, then toggle to Play Offline.
When you restart the game, the messages and bloodstains will be removed, and you’ll be in offline mode.
How to Write Messages
Although a lot of the messages in the game are frustratingly inaccurate and useless, sometimes you come across genuinely useful ones. And, if you want to join in and leave messages for other people, you can do this easily:

- Open the Pause Menu in Elden Ring.
- Select Messages from the menu.
- Choose a Template.
- Choose a Word.
- Select Finish.

The templates allow you to quickly choose a sentence like “**** ahead”. You can then fill in the missing word with “enemy” or “dragon”.
