It seems like it was only a few short years ago when we all got excited for the launch of Diablo 4; Ah, that’ll be because it was only three years, but here we are with the news, courtesy of BlizzCon 2026, with the news that Diablo V is already in the works.
While Diablo 4 only came out on June 6, 2023, previously fans had to wait an eye-watering 12 years before they finally got to see Diablo III. The good news is, we won’t need to wait 12 years this time. But don’t get too excited yet; the Diablo 5 release date hasn’t been set yet, but we have got a launch window for Spring 2029.
Diablo v First Look
While we usually expect to get some World of Warcraft news, Hearthstone, and maybe even some cool new Overwatch reveals, I’m not sure anyone was really expecting news as big as this.
Not only did Blizzard offer us up one hell of a surprise with the return of the franchise so soon, but they also gave us a teaser, which, in usual Blizzard style, was pure cinematic joy to watch, filled with stunningly dark visuals, and the news of the return of the Lord of Terror, Diablo himself.
As it stands, Diablo V is still very much in early development, but Blizzard has confirmed they plan to start providing players with regular updates from the start of 2027, so it shouldn’t be long before we start finding out what to expect following the Diablo V announcement.
The Reign of Terror Begins
Much like a rom-com, or pretty much any Jason Statham movie, Diablo games are often pretty predictable. A new threat, usually a Prime Evil, threatens Sanctuary, a group of heroes and often some brave (or possibly stupid) side characters band together and stop the threat in its tracks.
This time Diablo has kicked ass and taken names. Sanctuary has fallen, and the Lord of Terror has won. Players will take on the role of the Heir to Westmarch, who has a mysterious connection to Diablo, giving this entry to the Diablo series an exciting new angle.
Confirmed Diablo v Classes
While it’s still early days, Blizzard has already announced three of the classes available to players on day one.
- Monk
- Demon Hunter
- Plague Knight
Both the Monk and Demon Hunter are classes returning from previous games; however, the Plague Knight is a brand-new class to the series which focuses on using disease and pestilence to wreak havoc on its enemies.
Not only has Blizzard announced that it plans to release more updates on classes coming to Diablo V, but it also promises players more classes than any previous Diablo game.
