Being a tattooed Viking in Assassins Creed Valhalla is pretty cool, but from the start it’s not overly clear how to get tattoos in Assassins Creed Valhalla as well as hair designs too.
Getting your first tattoo
It’s really important to get the tattoo you want, as well as hairstyle straight away, if you don’t, you may end up going some time without being able to customize your looks, much like I had to.
Svend’s Tattoo Shop in Fornburg becomes available to you pretty early on in the game, personally I was in such a rush to get to England, I didn’t bother updating my appearance.
If you make that same mistake, you will find when you land at the shores of England, you wont have Svend’s shop to start with and will be stuck with the default looks.
The only issue is, on the first visit to the tattoo & hair shop, you wont find a huge selection to pick from, but don’t worry, that will change.
Unlocking the tattoo shop in England
Once you have done enough to expand the settlement, you will notice Randvi mentioning that Svend passed away whilst you was gone.
As soon as he has passed away, this is your cue that you may now start to get the tattoo and hair shop open.
‘Carrying The Torch’ is the name of the quest that will allow you to get the shop opened.
You will unlock this quest once Svend has passed away.
This is one of the easiest quests in the game, simply find Tove, Svends apprentice and speak to her about Svend’s death.
Tove Will be at his grave, which can be found on the outskirts of the settlement, she will need some guidance to help her to overcome her confidence issues and pick up where Svend left off.
Yes! There are many ways to get new tattoos and hair styles, ranging from completing missions to fishing and much more.
As mentioned above, you won’t start with the tattoo shop, you will need to work on Ravensthorpe a little to be able to unlock it.
First you will need to start doing some raids to expand Ravensthorpe, this will give you much needed supplies to help you build new buildings, each of which will give you need features, buffs or other benefits.
How to get new designs
There are several ways to get new designs for both tattoos and hair styles, some ways more fun than others.
Buying from Reda
Reda, the young child who randomly decides to move in to your settlement has daily and weekly items for sale.
Some of these items can include tattoos and hair styles, as well as new items for your settlement and ship.
To purchase from Reda, or any other Thousand Eyes trader, you will need to have Opal, the currency that only they use.

If you haven’t got any or much Opal, take a look at our handy guide to learn what it is and how to get some.
Finding Tattoo notes
While out and about, you might want to spend some time searching for treasures, mysteries and artifacts and if you do, you will undoubtedly run into a tattoo design note.
Before going to grab it, plan your route, the note will fly off and you will have to give chase, so consider where it might go and how best to keep up with it.
If you don’t get it the first time, don’t threat, it will respawn at the point in which you found it in the first place, then you can have another try.
Buying new designs
General stores also sell a fair amount of tattoo designs, and some of the best Assassins Creed Valhalla tattoo designs I have seen have come from general stores.
Make sure you take a look at the shop as soon as you get a chance, it actually has some great items.
Hunter & fishing stores
Both the hunting and fishing lodges give rewards should you bring them items.
You will need to complete a set of items, not single items to be able to get a tattoo design as a reward and not all rewards are tattoo designs.
You can actually buy a list of where to find certain fish from the general store, so make sure to get that to help you find the fish that you will need to complete the list and get the design you want.
Ubisoft Connect
If you haven’t used it before, make sure to take a look at Ubisoft Connect, it’s and app, made by Ubisoft (of course) that rewards players for completing certain achievements in games.
You are rewarded with points which can be used to purchase new mounts, weapons, settlement decorations, tattoos and more.
If you have any other games and used Ubisoft Connect, the chances are you might already have some points to spend, as they can be used on all Ubisoft games no matter where they were earned from.
