As the seasons continue to change, Animal Crossing: New Horizons brings a new seasonal update. Gloucestershire’s famous Coopers Hill is featured in the Animal Crossing cheese rolling event. While it may imply that cheese is simply rolled down a hill, Cheese Rolling is actually a case of participants hurling themselves down a hill in pursuit of a roll of cheese.
It’s a brutal tradition that sees worldwide visitors from around the globe. In the UK, this event is held yearly, usually at the end of May. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Cheese Rolling was canceled last year but is set for a manic return at Coopers Hill on May 31, 2021.

What Is Cheese Rolling?
For those of you who are thinking “what on earth is cheese rolling?“, well, it’s a bit of a tradition at Gloucestershire’s Coopers Hill.

This event sees people chasing a roll of cheese down a large hill. “The Cooper’s Hill Cheese-Rolling and Wake is an annual event held on the Spring Bank Holiday at Cooper’s Hill, near Gloucester in England.”

The first recorded event was in 1826. Participants race down the 200-yard-long hill, in the hope of retrieving the Double Gloucester Cheese. Traditionally, this event was held for the people of Brockworth, but now sees people worldwide attending the event. This world-famous event brings travelers from Canada, Australia, Nepal, and more, bringing plenty of fun, laughter, and injuries!
The cheese rolling event is quite brutal. You can watch Netflix’s We Are The Champions to see it in all of its glory.
Cheese Rolling in Animal Crossing

In the Animal Crossing Cheese Rolling event, villagers are seen standing near the cheese, enjoying a glass of sparkling apple cider. We’re not completely sure how the event will work, or whether you’ll in fact be able to participate in the cheese rolling event, but here’s hoping!
